Apple should roll put all the updates it can to bring FCP to the level of other editors.

I know it makes zero sense for social videos but no one ever talks about avid media composer. I use it 60+ hours a week and it’s just so great for editing , trimming, collaborating, organization, turnovers. It’s feature film / tv series oriented , but it’s rad. A real thick learning curve, and a workflow that’s not suited for social media quick and dirty edits. But it’s the goat for editing long form. Disagree? Still 90+% of movies and shows are cut on it. Just like when fcp7 threatened it ppl though, Apple dropped the ball. Premiere is used on some features but not most . It’s used more on the indie film tier (like real small indies). I cut a feature in resolve and it has its major problems for long form cutting. Things social media editors won’t really notice or grasp why they’re important. But my go to these days for quick and dirty out the door edits? Resolve. Long form big project? Avid media composer .

For me eBay and Facebook Marketplace are the core places scammers live, especially for gear and tech items. Personally, I won't buy or sell gear or tech either of those sites anymore. My go-to's have been Gear Focus and MPB (actually just bought a used Sony camera on MPB). KEH is okay but I find the deals better on MPB, if you compare those. For new deals, I've bought several things from TriState Camera. Despite their website looking like 1980's Tiger Direct, they usually have good deals, return policies AND you actually talk to real people when you call. Glad your deal went through.

What I love about FCPX is just how easy it is to slap together edits. It can do short films and all that good stuff, but just for quick youtube/instagram stuff, FCPX is pretty great. Resolve has alot more capabilities, especially in comp/colour grading. But feels very over-built for the nonsense crap I edit. I guess iMovie could step up. Meh.... I'm a stupid nobody, nothing I say should be taken as gospel haha

I am UK based and hate selling through eBay as there is so often problems so most of the gear I have sold over the past few years is through MPB. They pay really quickly sometimes within two days, they pay for collection from me and if you are honest about the condition hardly ever do they reduce the amount. In fact I have occasionally had the opposite and they paid me more than I expected. The other thing I have found with eBay prices dropping now once all the fees are taken into consideration the amount that MPB pay me is about the same but without the hassle. I highly recommend them over eBay.

I've used MPB and Adorama. Adorama will give you next to nothing and then say, "We'll... we can give you much more if you trade for something else." They're whole system is setup to get you to buy stuff and give out no cash. MPB has been great and their stuff has been in great shape. I also deal with Map Camera in Japan. They have an eBay store and they are extremely legit. The stuff come s practically overnight and, being in Japan, they have higher standards. Something that is in "Good" condition is practically new.

Gear Focus has NO traffic except the You Tubers they sponsor. It's next to impossible to sell on that platform.

I will not switch from FCP to any other video editor, because for my current projects it is the best in terms of stability and speed. For example, on Mac mini M1 with minimal configuration multi-camera project with color correction and graphics layer it renders fast enough, - in a minute and a few seconds it renders a ten-minute video. DaVinci on a Mac mini will only be able to run, but it can't run on such weak hardware.

Just switched to Resolve, v19 with NPU/Copilot+PC on the Go 🚀 For future proofing, file management, color grading and AI tools, like Capture One for my photos (remember Aperture…) 3:44 btw very good knives 😉 Greetings 🇨🇭

Adobe Premiere Pro is a pain, I rather have my toes burn in acid than use that crap. FCPX rules.

That's absurd. Apple loves their third party apps, which is why they showcase Resolve and Premiere (and others) regularly. They are crucial to a robust computer platform. As for being your "one stop shop" -- that is clearly not their goal. They are an editing platform. Not a VFX one. Not a high end mixing one. And the renaming effects, and search filter for effects -- are both crucial tools to the professional editing community. This doom and gloom stuff is so tiring.

I just moved from a PC using Premier and bought a 13” iPad Pro and although I mainly edit photos I did use PP for some travel video and family video projects. I love the iPad for its portability so I’m currently trying PFP for iPad and although it’s super simple and easy to make a quick edit and DOES I put my XFAVC 4k canon clog 3 footage and I can color it pretty nicely there are some simple features that I really used in PP that are def not able to be done in the iPad version. I think I can get like 85% there with FCP but and left wanting more. I’m just a bit intimidated by trying to figure out DR. I know the iPad version is way more powerful I think I just need to get used to it.

I remember when final cut pro 7 was the professional editing software and adobe was for the kids that couldn't afford it. I feel like final cut is just a joke now and adobe forgot why they became market leaders and is going to go the way of final cut when resolve overtakes it.

Now if they could just put prores raw on Resolve that would be awesome.

I’ve edited hour long Documentaries, wedding films, commercials and so many other heavy projects in FCP, I also use it to color everything I film. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a “consumer software” or less of a tool just because it doesn’t have AI features. Maybe it’s just not for everyone, just like PP wasn’t for me.

Features: yes FCPX needs to better service for modern needs, e.g auto audio ducking, auto close captioning, role based audio mixing. But purely as an NLE it works so much better. It’s a very fast and reliable video editor. I expect Apple to focus more on backfilling AI powered features after the provide Apple Intelligence to their operating system, because some of it will be shared through an AI service (such as close captioning)

Outdated and not working in 2024 RIP

I don’t trust Apple anymore, every time they start a new photo editor and bookmaker they end up just ending it suddenly? Why invest in a company that isn’t going to stick with their products!

C’mon man this is a discussion that was had years ago and most people found alternate solutions then. The REAL PROBLEM now is most people don’t want an Adobe product alternative and some people are feeling the pinch of having fewer solutions. I tend to think of FCP as potentially a cuts only editor and then maybe finishing with titles at the end with Motion if I want to dig back into that or have preexisting work that used Motion for titles. Everything else most people have switched to Davinci for or they were clinging to Premiere still. If you want a real workgroup editor you at least should look at Avid, but it feels like they could finally collapse at any time. There are still a lot of network shows cut on Avid, so maybe they’re fine, but if say Affinity releases an editor with all they know about modern processors, and modern OS’ software dev all bets are off.

I'm not an FCP user but am rooting for it in the professional space as we need options so we have options unlike the photoshop users.

A few years back, I saw an Apple marketing executive leaving Apple to join BlackMagicDesign and the Resolve team. Resolve wasn't a big editing software back then, only colorists used it. Resolve gained momentum right after that, and it started adding more and more features. Fast forward to 2024, it's now everyone's favorite NLE.

For me as a beginner, Capcut is much more easer and interface friendly than FCP. Thanks for a video👍

Admittedly, I only use FCPX and have never used DV, but I came here to see the primary features I’m missing. Looks like they are Windows version, deeper sound editing & deeper color grading. I don’t need Windows - for years I’ve worked in an all Mac shop. I could see the value in more sophisticated color grading - even AI color grading - but the FCPX tools have been adequate for me. The main improvement I’d wish for would be better audio management - even just an extensive graphic equalizer. But not only is this a fairly rare need, and not only could this easily appear in a next upgrade, but it’s even not so hard to process audio separately in a different app in the rare situation I’d need that. Did I miss any *other* key FCPX failings?

I jumped ship to Resolve a year ago and loving it. Can't see anyone else challenging Resolve's supremacy for pro editing moving forward.
